First and foremost: I doubt RIM would send out spam.
However, I just received an SMS on a phone number that is not used at all with anything related to RIM other that a BlackBerry App World account. As I really don’t believe RIM would be sending a text message telling me that I have won £500,000 pounds ($825,750), I have to assume that BlackBerry App World got hacked and people stole my mobile phone number from there. Here is the text:
From: +4915159929067
YOUR MOBILE NUMBER HAS WON 500,000.00 POUNDS IN THE BLACKBERRY MOBILE
PROMO,FOR CLAIMS SEND EMAIL YOUR NAME,MOBILE NO & COUNTRY TO
blackberryoffice@london.com
There is no other way that my phone number is stated anywhere else than on App World. Though, the email address and currency being used indicated a source in the United Kingdom — the +49 sender phone number prefix indicates Germany.
I found a site on the Internet talking about the very same message, read more here: BlackBerry Smart Phones UK PROMOTION
Did anyone else receive that text message?

Application: Color ID – LED Color Customizer for Contacts
By Benzoon | February 1st, 2011 | No Comments »
This application was on BlackBerry App World Top Selling Paid Application for quite some time now, I finally decided to take a look at it. After reading the description, I decided this is a Must-Buy application. Basically, Color ID allows you to assign custom LED colors to specific contacts for emails, sms and phone calls. With this app, you will know who messaged you or is calling you at a glance.
This application may be suitable in many situations, whether in a personal or work situation. Color ID has made over 4,000,000 users happy and is still the top seller.
- Syncing with Address Book is easy! Go into your Contacts list, highlight the contact you want to add and hit the BB menu button – select “Add to Color ID” and you’re set!
- You must grant Color ID Permissions when you run Color ID! It’s safe to grant them – otherwise the app WILL NOT WORK.
- ALL new apps require a battery pull after installation – this is NOT app specific, this applies to all applications.
- If you upgrade to full version, you need to DELETE the Lite version & do a battery pull after install to get it to work properly.
- There is currently no way for us to add colors for SPECIFIC BBM contacts.
You can get Color ID for $5.99 or try out the trial version, Color ID Lite.

It is true that it has been a problem for many BlackBerry users to send messages efficiently to the non-Smartphone users. They are able to communicative effortlessly with the BlackBerry users, but it was not at all feasible to communicate through messaging with the non-Smartphone users around the world. Therefore to help you out from this drawback, Kik has developed an application for the BlackBerry users.
The BlackBerry application called Kik Chat is an easy to use messaging service, which will allow a BlackBerry user to send messages even to non-Smartphone users. You can send numerous messages side by side with the help of this application.
Kik was initially working on a musical application for the BlackBerry handsets. They were developing an application for the BlackBerry users to enhance the way we listen to music. But they took everyone by surprise with the new Kik Chat Launch.
To bring more smiles to your face, the application will allow you to send message at an extremely low price. If you are sending a message to a BlackBerry user, then you won’t be charged anything for that. But if you are sending it to a non-BlackBerry user, then the message will cost you even less than a penny. Along with that you will also get 50 free messages per month from the application, which you can send to the non-BlackBerry users or non-Kik users. So, if your requirements are not so high, then you can simply use the 50 free outbound messages. If you exceed this limit then there are packages available, such as 100 texts for $0.99, 500 for $2.99, and 1000 for $4.99.
The BlackBerry application is completely platform independent. Therefore it does not matter to which operating system to your BlackBerry belongs; the application will work in each of the platform for the Smartphones. Therefore this application is extremely useful for those people who either have to frequently send messages, or have to send message across far distance.
Kik is really excited about this development. But they also said that this is just the beginning of their journey. They are looking at this development as a way to venture into the development of Blackberry applications that will make sharing of music, photo, and video easier for the BlackBerry users. The Kik Chat application will provide them a platform to successfully launch their music and video applications for the BlackBerry handsets.
