Do you remember my article “BlackBerry Pearl 9100 Copy B9100 found on Hong Kong Electronics Fair”? Well, the very same company had a big pot of name cards and it seems ours was in there. So they sent us an (unsolicited) email about their latest products with prices of course. The full email reads as followed:
Dear k,
Glad meeting you in Hongkong fair.I am Bill and from PT Industrial co.,ltd.Hope you can remember.
We are professional mobile phone manufacturer. We can provide OEM or ODM service for you.We sell at least 200k per month to Indonesia,South America,Thailand,Dubai and Africa.
On the fair, you were very interested in Qwerty phones.Enclosed is the price list for the clone iphone. Please kindly check. If you have any question, please feel free to contact with me.Hope to work with you soon.
Best regards,
Bill Wang

On purpose, I didn’t correct the email’s mistakes. The funny thing: they openly advertise for a “clone iphone”.
There was also a full price list (Excel) with pictures attached to their email. Here is a screen shot of the BlackBerry copies B9100 and B9700:
So you can get your BlackBerry Bold 9700 copy (called B9700) for just $51 and the Pearl 3G copy (B9100) for a buck less at $50. If you want more, you can even add “TV” and “WiFi” for just $6 respectivley $14 more. Wow! I didn’t know BlackBerry devices have telly support … must be some secret feature not even RIM knows about
Also quite interesting I think: They didn’t even bother to use photos of their fake B9700. Instead they used the original images RIM published for the Rogers branded BlackBerry Bold 9700. I call that bold man!

- Fake Phone Price List: Price and Image List of Fake Phones (zipped Excel .xls file)
Important: Do you like this article and want RIM to know about it? Please forward this article to your friends or just re-tweet it (link at top left of the article). Thank you.

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 Copy B9100 found on Hong Kong Electronics Fair
By k | April 21st, 2010 | No Comments »You won’t believe this!
On the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) that took last week at the Hong Kong Convention Centre last week, hosted by the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council. We didn’t want to believe what we saw, but there were many Chinese cell phone factories present who showed “their” newest products. One of the most presented devices were nearly perfect copies of the brand new BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Pearl 9100. Take a look at this photo:
Sorry for the bad picture, I was trying not to get caught by the guys. As you can see, the shape of the device is pretty close to the Pearl 9100. However, the Chinese dudes call it a “B9100″ without mentioning BlackBerry anywhere. I was quite interested in that one as well as the Bold 9700 copy. If you take the device in your and play with the OS you pretty quickly see that everything is fake. However, I have to say that the copy is done quite well. Even the BlackBerry OS is a Chinese copy and looks very close to the original. I guess, people who never used a BlackBerry before would buy this device as a real BlackBerry.
Perhaps this is something RIM’s legal department should take a look at.

Featured Hardware Review: Stylophone Beatbox with BlackBerry Curve 8900 Free Style
By k | October 13th, 2009 | 2 Comments »
Quite a while after reviewing the incredible X-Mini II speakers for BlackBerry we just received another nice and brand new gadget: the Stylophone Beatbox!
Though this piece is not purely for the BlackBerry, it works fine with it. I am actually a bit addicted right now and am playin’ all day long with this thing. My BlackBerry Curve 8900 plays the original tunes and I am hacking some ubersounds onto the betabox organ! Did you know that the original Stylophone was invented in 1967? Crazy, huh? Even David Bowie used it back then! Man – he must be old! The current license holder dübreq is still selling that one, but with the brand new Beatbox they kind of re-invented the Stylophone and made it compatible with the music world we know today!
When you open up the Stylophone Beatbox box it might look like this:
Including a manual, of course. The Beatbox is battery operated with 3 AA batteries and a silly battery cap for which you need a screwdriver to open it. Who had that stupid idea? Anyway, the rest of the piece is fine and the manufacturing quality seems to be quite good. Connecting to the BlackBerry is very easy, just plug the 3.5 mm headphone cable into the headphone jack of the BlackBerry and the other end into the “MP3″ jack at the Beatbox. When you know play music on the BlackBerry, it will come out of the Stylophone
Here is the official detail listing:
Stylophone Beatbox Features
- Three new sounds: Beatbox, Percussion and Steel Drums
- Record Loop and Playback function
- Tempo Adjust
- Volume control
- MP3 function – play along to any music – includes two way adapter
Product Details
- For ages 7+
- Requires 3x AA batteries – not supplied
- Original features
- Packaging (approx) 27cm(W) x 15cm(D) x 6cm(H)
- Product (approx) 15.5cm(W) x 10cm(D) x 4cm(H)
- Headphone socket
The BlackBerry Curve is the perfect bro for the Stylophone Beatbox. I got some help from my better half which is a bit more music savvy than me, but still not a professional musician. An official demo video can be found here. Here in action with Michael Jackson and the some free style performed Beatbox beats:
The Stylophone Beatbox also works alone and can record and play tunes:
The Stylophone Beatbox is available for only $25.50 plus shipping. Lucky me – reviewers get a free one; isn’t that great?

BlackBerry is one of those brands that always keeps technophiles at the edge of their seats. The concept itself, when first introduced — the ability to send and receive emails on the go — was unheard of. Sure, there was the Palm, but that had to be plugged in and synched. The BlackBerry provided freedom and accessibility, and for some, a pain in the ass. It’s morphed from a brick with buttons to flashy rollerballs, a touch screen, and now the Crackberry has officially come full circle with a model for every personality. Introducing the Pearl Flip. That’s right — it’s a BlackBerry. It’s a flip-phone. It’s the coolest piece of electronic genius to fit into your pocket, and starting at $149, it won’t drain too much out of it either.
