QNX BlackBerry ‘SuperPhone’ will have BBM Video Chat Capabilities

There has been a lot of rumors going around about what the new QNX-based BlackBerry ‘SuperPhone’ will have. We’ve previously mention that the new platform will be Android compatible. Today, we have more news that the ‘SuperPhone’ will have BBM Video Chat capabilities, just like FaceTime from Apple iPhone.

From our sources, they say that the first BlackBerry ‘SuperPhone’ will be a “Mini-PlayBook”. It will nearly be identical to the PlayBook and include a front-facing camera, but of course a much smaller size, probably a 4″-5″ display. This may be the next Samsung Galaxy S II competitor.

The new BlackBerry SuperPhone’s video chat capabilities will be deeply integrated with BBM. We have already seen the release of BBM Music, a unique platform that allows social sharing of music with BBM friends. We’re lead to believe that RIM is going to roll out new BBM Social features. I wonder what is going to be next. What do you, as a BBM user, want to be able to do on your BBM?

It’s going to be Android compatible, like a mini-Playbook!  But wait, it is Sept 20, and the Playbook is not Android compatible.  Supposedly it will be updated sometime this fall, but way back in March, Rim had already “confirmed” Android compatibility, so hopefully they will finally fulfill that promise.  Following this pattern, you might expect Rim to make the yet unreleased QNX phone to have Android compatibility 8 months after release too.
I want Rim to succeed but they have a lot to prove with the QNX platform devices, and their first attempt (the Playbook) failed miserably.  Not sure that I would rest the fate of the company on future devices based on their biggest failure.  I think that the 9900 will be the stop-gap for many people and many companies.  I just bought the Bold 9900 with this in mind.  I hope I’m wrong and that RIM does brilliantly with QNX, but I’m guessing I just bought my last berry in the 9900.  Good thing it’s a decent machine, it may have to last me a long time.
