Get BlackBerry mobile services without the BlackBerry

The new mobile enterprise service launched for small and medium businesses, which will enable them to enjoy the BlackBerry services without the need of a BlackBerry device. The two companies SmarterMobile and CommuniGate intend to provide the services in the lines Research In Motion, but as an off-device service hosted by the provider.

This type of hosted service is called the Software as a Service (SaaS), where the service provider runs the service while the use of the service is licensed out to the user. Thus using this service, a company that wishes to provide its employers the BlackBerry-like services can license the CommuniGate property. With this, all the employers of the company will be able to access the services from their devices, without the need of having a BlackBerry. This is the key advantage of SaaS. Using the individual devices, the employees can get access to a consistent set of services like Push mail, Shared Calendars, Contact sync and backup, Shared folders and file sharing, Group scheduling, Remote lock-down and wipe, Complete communications platform including mail, instant messaging and lot more, platform agnostic unified desktop client, and all these without the necessity of any mobile software, it is compatible with the native mobile clients.

The companies providing these BlackBerry-like services are CommuniGate and SmarterMobile. The company CommuniGate has been around from the beginning of the 1990s. It focuses mainly on “Internet Communications”, which is basically a hub service which rolls e-mail, IM, VoIP and video calling all into one package, thus enabling broadband and mobile operators to resell that package to businesses. The hosted service is rendered by CommuniGate. It actually means that the operator hosts the communications packages while businesses tap into it without having to shell out anything for downloading or installing anything. Presently, CommuniGate claims to have about 150 million users, which represents 12,000 companies worldwide.

The other company, SmarterMobile is a mobile software company that specializes in jobs for small to medium enterprises. It is the company which has been chosen by CommuniGate to deliver its new mobile service of providing BlackBerry-like services. SmarterMobile must be good at it considering it has been selected by CommuniGate.

In the present day and in the coming days, the phones and networks are becoming increasingly fast and capable of handling complex data. As such the robust cloud-hosted services will soon become more commonplace in order to bring in uniformity in the services rendered to people using different devices.
