The German comment says: “The device has a copy protection now.” … I don’t know exactly what they mean with that – it’s a bit funny though … :)

The Opera Mini Browser for BlackBerry

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (9 votes, average: 3.89 out of 5)

January 30th, 2009

The Opera Mini Browser is the mobile version of the Opera web browser that serves as an internet browser for the BlackBerry handhelds. The Opera Mini browser has an edge over the other available browsers because it formats and strips the regular website through an inbetween proxy server, optimizing it for the mobile platform thereby reducing data cost and making browsing faster. The Opera Mini functions like any other mobile browser with all the regular features including browsing history, bookmarks and the split of larger pages into small sections for quick browsing. This browser provides users with access to the entire Internet on their BlackBerry devices. Users can surf all websites including Google, Amazon, eBay, Hotmail, and Yahoo just as they would on any normal computer.

The opera Mini 4.2 beta is the new version of the Opera browser for the BlackBerry. This version features new skins, increased video capability, notes syncing and performance tweaks. By using the newly established server park present in the US, the Opera Mini 4.2 can now offer its users in America and the Asia Pacific significantly faster page downloads. As the load on other servers will also be reduced, the rest of the world too will experience relatively faster page downloads. Moreover, the Opera Mini allows users to sync their bookmarks between their handheld and desktop as well as have web-based access to all their favourites even while not using the Opera.

The Opera Mini is available for free download OTA here.  You can visit the site from your BlackBerry browser or download it to your desktop from the Opera’s website. Downloading the Opera Mini is a relatively simple process. From your phone’s default web browser visit the site mini.opera.com and follow the on-screen instructions for download. Once downloaded, locate the Opera Mini among the other Java applications present on your phone and you are good to go. You can also download the Opera Mini browser by submitting an SMS request on the official opera website which will send a download link directly to your phone. Another option would be to download the Opera browser first to your PC and then transfer it to your BlackBerry. Users who are running OS 4.0+ might encounter some problems installing the Opera browser for the BlackBerry. If such be the case, you can install the version available through the ‘Low memory version’ link. Opera Mini works on all BlackBerry models.

BlackBerry Curve 8900 (Javelin) from T-Mobile is Awesome!

January 29th, 2009

At least that is what quite some reviews say about this device. For example Slash Gear says:

With the arguments over the BlackBerry Storm still raging, it’s going to take a solid, dependable smartphone from RIM to settle some users down.

Not enough, C|Net says:

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 offers a sleeker and more solidly constructed design as well as a brilliant display. The smartphone features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS and brings new productivity tools, a full HTML Web browser, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

However, the most missed feature is 3G. No-one knows why the Curve does not come with 3G support. Even the BlackBerry Bold (which was released earlier) and the Storm come with 3G support.

Become smart in real estate with smarter agent

January 29th, 2009

Real estate business has been pretty stagnant over the years ignoring the current situation though, and in most cases has been considered the only globally stable monetary security available to the people. The main criterion which has defined such a change has been with choosing of property in a careful and calculated manner. Land value has reached record highs in several parts of the world and in several other parts it has touched record lows. In order to search for property in and around an area that you are interested people generally opt for brokers or internet real estate marketing. But now, technology has taken the benefits of real estate searching to the next level with the launch of the real estate search application from Smarter agent available specifically for BlackBerry phones.
Smarter agent real estate search has several benefits that give it the properties of a best seller. Whereas internet real estate searches are very helpful, one thing they lack in terms of usability is the ability to utilize some features on the move, say on a mobile phone. A mobile phone application then which is designed specifically to get information about real estate available in a selected area is the ideal tool. The smarter agent application can search for property anywhere you want and it uses the GPS facility, if available in your BlackBerry to automatically hone in on your position and give real estate information to the user about the area that surrounds him. The level of detailing available on the software also is quiet exceptional with property details and plot information even including the contact numbers of the land owners being visible to the user. The map narrows down 10 closest properties around the area that you request. There is also zoom facility available in the maps that enable the user to see the surroundings and get a feel of the neighbourhood. The detailed addresses of the selected property are provided upon the user selecting a particular place. The interior details are also available, the number of beds, bathrooms, kitchen etc. The initiative of such a novel feature has been possible by smarter agent teaming up with some local brokerages and also network providers, with the application supported by both Sprint and AT&T with a few more to follow suit.
The smarter agent real estate search is the ultimate mobile property search tool when one wants to be on the move and have a wide selection of houses to choose from.

ActionPad for BlackBerry®
We are proud to host the ActionPad Beta Program discussions already. It seems the next version of ActionPad (the best memo pad replacement already) is going to be released soon. The developers at S4BB Limited just asked in our forum which feature they should integrate first. Thinking of “next features” it poped up into my mind that I love the application very much already and actually don’t need more features. However, it looks there are folks out there who already suggested loads of different and very interesting features. I have to admit that those look very intersting and therefore, I already placed my vote in there.

Already working features in Beta 2:

  • Quick: 2 click memo creation.
  • Category quick switch: known from TaskMaster and NextAction!.
  • Supports multiple categories.
  • Export memo to / send memo via EMail.
  • Functions: add / edit / delete memo, add / delete category.
  • Search: quick search field.

Synchronization with 3rd party applications:

  • Compatible with desktop memo applications including but not limited to Microsoft®: Outlook®, Entourage®, Entourage® 2008; Apple: OS X Mail Notes™, Stickies Notes™, PocketMac SecureNotes, and more.
  • All memos can synchronized with the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, MissingSync or PocketMac.
  • 3 Font sizes: small, medium, large.
  • 100% compatible with internal Blackberry® Memo™ Application: You can use ActionPad for BlackBerry® and the internal application simultaneuosly if you want.

Instant message: Quick revamp of White House Web site follows promise of more transparency

January 28th, 2009

The official White House Web site has had a makeover that is as philosophical as it is political and physical. In recent days, President Barack Obama promised more transparency in government, and the revamped site is designed to reflect and reinforce that commitment.

As part of the makeover of www. whitehouse.gov, a long-standing presidential tradition — the weekly Saturday radio address, which is carried on radio stations across the country — has moved into the new media world. Saturday’s weekly radio address is now also transmitted as a Web video. It’s archived on the White House site, along with the text of the speech. The video is also posted on YouTube and Twitter.

The President gets to keep his toy!

January 27th, 2009

A blackberry serves to define the purpose of doing work at home, rather than carrying a laptop around, one can use the Blackberry smart phone to check e-mails and do any other office work. This has been one of the main factors that has made the US President, the most powerful man in the world, Barack Obama, one of its biggest fans. The easy e-mail client in the Blackberry smart phone, his model being the Blackberry 8830, has been greatly appreciated by the US president for the reason that he can easily keep in touch with senior members of the president’s office as well as old friends.
There have however been large security concerns fearing that the president’s personal e-mails may be tapped by terrorists or any unwanted outsiders. The president has however refused to do away with the Blackberrry even upon the advice of some senior members and has famously quoted that they would have to pry it out of his hands if they wanted to get it off him. A solution however has now been found that can allow the US president to use his favourite Blackberry, by promising cutting edge levels of security ensuring that no one has a chance to even view the president’s private details or any other official information. A new platform named Secreta Edge has come out and it is based on a Windows Mobile 6.1 platform that promises the ultimate in security. It has some truly unique features like “classified” USB, trusted display etc. The National Security Agency, the Government defence body responsible for any mishaps if an unsecure communication may occur, were ultimately responsible for installing President Obama’s phone with this super secure package. Pundits also feel that sealing off the president from the rest of the world would not enable to take decisions as wisely as he has done till date and will isolate the president in his own bubble. With e-mail being banned inside the white house, Obama has become the first US president to have access to e-mail inside the white house, where as George Bush and Bill Clinton refused to use the facility in order to stay within security protocols. The principle behind the security in Obama’s Blackberry has been to keep the traces of activity ephemeral that is completely erase the history of activity with no trails.
President Obama with his reluctance to let go of his Blackberry has been granted use of his favourite phone and has been provided with the world’s most secure Blackberry phone ever made.

It had to happen. If a device is as popular as the BlackBerry Curve 8900, it will get the Colorware treatment sooner or later. Usually sooner. Just like the iPhone 3G, and your DS. So, if you want to beat your precious gadget upside the face with an ugly stick, the folks at Colorware will gladly help.
