Consumers around the world are adopting smartphones in their droves as they seek to achieve the optimal work / life balance and make the most of every minute of the day.
According to Gartner, the popularity of the smartphone is such that global sales already exceed those of laptops. By some predictions, there will be more than 300 million smartphones in circulation in 2011.
This is the picture painted by Deon Liebenberg, regional director Sub-Sahara Africa for Research In Motion, the company behind the BlackBerry® solution. He believes that technology consumers have caught on to the fundamental benefits of smartphones because it allows them to make the most of their time.

A HIGH tech revolution is helping to keep bobbies out on the beat in North Wales.
All 1600 police officers in the region are now equipped with sophisticated Blackberry mobile devices – which effectively gives them a mobile office.
In many cases, the force says its officers don’t have to return to the police station to and get bogged down in paperwork.
Coun Ian Roberts, the chair of the police authority, said: “One of the constant themes that comes through loud and clear from the people of North Wales is that they want to see police officers out on the beat in their communities.”
More than 1.5 years ago we reported the first time about MobileTracker for BlackBerry. Since then a lot of development took place with this nice app. There were new product updates as well a Windows Mobile version that is also available. We even had this as a free download on our blog.
Now there is a new version available of this ncie app and it comes with better BlackBerry support as well as with more supported BlackBerry devices including the brand new BlackBerry Bold™ and Kickstart™ devices.
The description states as requirements that you need an installed SD / media card to use this application. This is actually just the default setting and usually makes sense because such tracklog files can be really really big. However, for those of you who did not have or do not want a SD card we wrote a nice article about a trick to get this working with your internal memory as well: How to use MobileTracker without SD Card.
Moreover, if you are looking for quite good instructions on how to install such applications check this out: Installing BlackBerry Applications.
We even have articles about how to set up your Bluetooth GPS receiver to work with GPS applications on your BlackBerry. This is really helpful for those of you who did not do this before: How to pair a Bluetooth GPS receiver with your BlackBerry.
Yesterday we reported about the new beta version of TaskMailer that was upcoming. Well, now it is official. The new version is online and it comes with the following updates:
New features since version 1.3.0:
Category filter (user wish).
Task text in email content.
Font size adjustable in all screens.
Quick guide.
TaskMailer™ is a small program which allows you to create and email a task (todo) in the fastest way you can imagine.
I found this list on the Internet (well … actually the Al the author dropped me an email). It is a nice list of silly stuff that is related to the BlackBerry. Here is a short summary:
We have just received some insight news that a new free beta version of TaskMailer is coming to us tomorrow. It will bring some new features but I don’t know what those features are. At least I don’t know yet
Well, I still can’t really understand why this program is still in beta as it is stable (I had never a crash or found a bug) and it is just doing what it is supposed to do. Well, we can keep using it for free during beta. That’s actually really nice Stay tuned with our feed and be up-to-date all the time!
Eric wrote some interesting story about his iPhone experience from the view of a BlackBerry user. We have selected some interesting key phrase to wrap that up for you:
The email client on the iPhone is many ways better than the Blackberry phone. [...] deleting messages on the iPhone actually deletes them from Exchange, which is not the case with my Blackberry.
[...] it [the iPhone] handles attachments more smoothly [...]
I’ve also experienced long inexplicable periods where I simply stop receiving email; the Blackberry never does that unless the server goes down.
Since I have not been relying on the iPhone as my primary mobile phone - that’s still my Blackberry’s job - I’ve taken to simply shutting the phone off during periods when I don’t need it.
The Blackberry I use - an 8700c - can get through several days on a single charge, and I basically never even think about actually shutting it off.
To summarize this: the iPhone is fancy, its email client seems to be quite good, but the BlackBerry is better, more reliable and has better battery performance.

As the beta version seemed to be fine it looks like the final version is pretty much the same like the beta version. Out of beta the program can now be considered stable and ready for productive environments.
