BlackBerry smartphones with an internal GPS receiver which also support Bluetooth GPS technology through JSR 179
This does actually mean: you can either use the internal GPS receiver or connect an external Bluetooth GPS receiver to your BlackBerry and use this one.

BlackBerry smartphones without an internal GPS receiver which support GPS technology through JSR 179 only
This does actually mean: you can only get a GPS position fix onto your BlackBerry with an external Bluetooth GPS receiver.

There are also many people who are not sure if they have to pay for GPS or not. We hope we provided an answer to that question already. There is also a very interesting field of GPS applications that should not be forgotten. GPS applications are mostly just treated as simple navigation apps that shows you where to get a Caffe Latte Venti. There are also some few companies which make high professional GIS applications for the BlackBerry platform by combining the Global Positoning System with many kinds of map services like the OpenGIS:WMS standard. However, business proofed tracking applications for BlackBerry are available as well.
