  1. Open “Media” Application on your Blackberry.
  2. Select “Ring Tones”.
  3. Select either “All Ring Tones”, “My Ring Tones” or “Preloaded Ring Tones”.
  4. Press the Blackberry button directly to the right of the green phone button (the button that looks like a dialpad - actually it looks like a BlackBerry).
  5. Select “Receive Using Bluetooth” (You will see a “File Transfer - Waiting for connection” message).
  6. Go to your MAC and open Bluetooth File Exchange.
  7. Select “Send File”.
  8. Select the device you want to transfer your file to (in this case, a Blackberry 8100 Pearl).
  9. Click “Send”.
  10. Go to your Blackberry and notice a window asking you to “Please choose the location where you wish to save file”.
  11. Select “Save” located at the bottom left of the window.
  12. SUCCESS! The ringtone is on your BlackBerry now :)

Jeff: I had the same issue with transfers failing. It appears to be size related. Do you have a MicroSD card installed? I don’t, and attempting to transfer large files (several MB) always fails. I tried to send a 128kb file and it worked fine. There may be a size limit on transfers to the device memory.

jeff d…It failed every time for me too if I was in “Music” on my 8830. It only seems to work if I am in “Ring Tones”. This is pretty stupid since I want to transfer music and videos more often than ringtones. Just thought this might be the reason for your problem as well. Anyone know how to get this to work to transfer music or video in addition to just ringtones? FWIW, I’m transferring from XP SP2 to 8830 with a 2GB microSD card.

Works great for me on my Pearl. If you browse around, you can do the same thing with MP3s and just put them into your music folder! :D

[...] Today, 01:11 PM This might be possible. It is possible for ring tones and mp3 music for example. Here is an article about that on how to transfer ringtones using Bluetooth. This should work for pictures as well. The article is about how to copy those files from a Mac OS X machine but it should on Windows PCs as well. Using a BlackBerry 8800, I’m able to transfer both pictures and mp3 files, saving to device memory via bluetooth. Works great. Thanks!

so after a LONG process of messing around with my new blackperry pearl - i found that the file transfers work with smaller music files (as stated in a previous comment). use iTunes to convert the file to m4a format. same quality as MP3 but smaller file size. you’ll only have to do this if you aren’t using a memory card and want to use the Blackberry device memory.

    hope this helps

    Hi,
I am using BB8800. I have just added 2 GB micro SD card to BB. I am able to transfer images usingn Bluetooth connection. What is failing is MUSIC!!! I am not able to transfer the music at all. It throws error transfer fail. I think if I have extra memory, there shouldn’t be any limit on file size. Kindly guide.
    Cheers

    Apple iPhone Blog…

I noticed that there is an option to go full screen but it is poorly done. It takes over both screens so it’ s not possible to watch it on a TV and work on the computer. It would be nice to share the streaming URL so that it can be opened in a native…

I can get ringtones & pictures to load from my mac, but when I try to transfer music, it says that the transfer failed. I believe my problem is that it is trying to save the songs into the ringtone folder, and the songs are too long. Does anyone know how to change which folder I save my files in?

    Transfer failed, every time !!

I’ve had enough of messing around with this poxy device. Bluetooth is supposed to be a secure, convenient method of file transfer. BB is in so many ways fiddly, awkward and “over software engineered”

Every device I own easily talks to all the others except my blackberry. I’m done with it, It’s going on ebay.

I got it! the first instructions didnt work for me but I figured out how to make the file smaller and for the exchange to go through.

on your blackberry go to music>menu>recieve using bluetooth
then on your mac, go to itunes and click a song, then go to the top and hit “advanced”>create AAC version and then after it created that, a new version of the song will pop up.
then go to your bluetooth file exchange and press “send file”, click your device and look in your itunes for the new AAC version of your song. send that file, choose that song and then it will transfer in one minuite. enjoy =)

This worked beautifully with my 8830 and when i listen to my ringtones, I can listen to the song.

I now have to figure out, now that I changed my phone ring, why it is that when my phone rings it makes a funny sound like its trying to play something but can’t get it to load. It doesn’t sound like music at all. Yet the song plays beautifully if i just play from the ringtones menu.

    Anyone?

it only saves it, in my music folder not in my ringtone folder on my blackberry 8300. and it wont let me switch it over. How do i do that?
